The history of
The Friends of Christ Church, Stamford.

The Friends of Christ Church was set up in 2013 to encourage an interest in Christ Church and foster its development, work with the Parochial Church Council for the maintenance and improvement of the Christ Church building; and to support the church’s outreach projects.

Christ Church is one the of parish churches in Stamford.  The history of the church building dates to the end of the Second World War when many new houses were built in the north of Stamford.
By 1961 over 1,000 houses had been constructed with people moving out of the town.  In 1959 the Diocese of Lincoln felt that there were too many churches in the centre of Stamford and St Michaels church High Street was closed and a wooden hut was dedicated as “Christ Church “.  This served as a dual purpose of being both a place for regular worship, also a base for several community projects.  By 1975, the Diocese and Christ Church discerned the need for a permanent building and the present building in Green Lane was constructed and consecrated in 1978.
Today our focus is on building “church” through spreading God’s love in the community.  With our Vicar Anthony Laotan we want to raise money for the life and mission of Christ Church and the projects God has called us to.  We also ask for your prayers for each and every activity we undertake in His name.
